Support the Human Development Institute

The Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute (HDI) is Kentucky's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. We work on improving lifelong opportunities and services for individuals with disabilities, their families, and the community.

HDI takes real action in Kentucky and nationwide to make sure people with disabilities have access to the resources and supports to actively engage in their communities. We offer free resources like the Kentucky Disability Resource Manual, a popular guide for services utilized by thousands of Kentuckians annually. We provide programs to help new and expectant parents learning about a diagnosis for the first time; we help teachers who want to help students with disabilities succeed and be included with friends; and we help individuals with disabilities preparing to go to college, work, and stay fit. We also train future leaders through programs like our undergraduate certificate in Universal Design and graduate certificate in Developmental Disabilities.Since its inception, the Institute has worked to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. At HDI we develop strategies that promote independence, productivity, and inclusion throughout life for persons with disabilities, and we strive to be leaders within the University community, the state, and the nation.
