Since 1977, the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) has served as one of the nation's premier energy research and development institutes, collaborating with companies, government agencies and universities to help maximize Kentucky's – and the nation's – energy resources.
From creating new carbon capture technologies to developing new uses for coal combustion byproducts and working to expand energy options through the development of renewable biofuels, novel energy storage, and solar technology, UK CAER's scientists and investigators are singularly focused on solving the energy problems facing communities across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the nation and around the world.
The UK Center for Applied Energy Research didn't become one of the world's leading energy research and development institutions overnight. It was a process. A 40-year experiment of trial and error, learning from our failures, and celebrating our successes.
More than anything, UK CAER was built on partnerships. Thanks to the support of our partners, friends and philanthropists, UK CAER has pioneered advances being utilized by companies in Kentucky and around the world, while training today's leaders in the energy industry.
This fund helps support all of UK CAER's missions. From funding our new, innovative research programs that we hope will one day transform industry, supporting hands-on scientific training for undergraduate and graduate students, and advancing the Center's business development programming, our donors are helping to maximize Kentucky's – and the nation's – energy resources.
