Humanitarian Architecture: Empowering Haitian Orphans A Project of Big Blue Crowdfunding

Thanks to the generous support of so many who contributed to our crowd-funding campaign, we are able to send five students to continue our work in Haiti in February 2018. Because the crowd-fund site will be open until the end of 2017, we plan to use any additional funds to purchase materials needed to supply the orphanage with modern cooking equipment. Additional funds raised could also be used to design and construct a multi-purpose structure adjacent to the orphanage.

We appreciate everyone who has chosen to help us deliver a long-lasting impact and add a little more security to the lives of these deserving girls. You have helped strengthen the College of Design's global humanitarian outreach.

In the spring of 2017 a group of UK College of Design architecture students began designing a renovation/expansion project for the Chez Moi orphanage, located in Port Au Prince, Haiti. During this time, the students traveled to Port Au Prince to gather site information, meet and interact with the girls and staff, and to better understand the local culture. Upon returning from Haiti, the group finalized a single design proposal that focused on improving the quality of life at Chez Moi and expanded the facilities of the orphanage to expand its community outreach. The students then compiled the work completed during that semester into a book that will be used to further advance the project as a whole.

The funds raised through crowdfunding will be directly used to help cover the cost of travel and expenses for students returning to Haiti, in order to further to Chez Moi project. Any additional funds will be used toward purchasing materials for the project. Over the course of this time on site, we will meet with Haitian consultants and contractors to progress the construction of our designs for the orphanage. As well, we will be publishing a book in order to advance our marketing capabilities and to share the story of the residents of Chez Moi. The funds raised through Big Blue Crowdfunding will enable us to advance this project to the next phase, and allow our goal of constructing this orphanage to become a reality.

Please show your support for Humanitarian Architecture: Empowering Haitian Orphans Through A New Home by making a gift to the Humanitarian Haiti Fund today!

*All of your gifts will go the Humanitarian Haiti Fund. Every dollar raised will be used to directly support this project. If we do not meet our fundraising goal your gifts will be used to support student travel and expenses. If we exceed our goal, the additional funds will be used toward purchasing materials for the project.
